STAGES OF CARE

Most people first visit a chiropractor complaining of a symptom, most commonly pain. The first part of care is symptom or relief care. This is when we are accomplishing goals of reducing pain, improving range of motion, and integrating new patterns of spinal alignment.
After the Initial relief phase, when the symptoms have reduced and the patient is having longer periods of relief, we reduce the adjustment schedule and institute strengthening protocols designed to give the patient more stability and long-term relief.
After the Initial relief phase, when the symptoms have reduced and the patient is having longer periods of relief, we reduce the adjustment schedule and institute strengthening protocols designed to give the patient more stability and long-term relief.
This is the best stage of care! After getting your body to maximum improvement, we then have to maintain the progress we have made. This is ongoing care that ranges from 1x/week visits to 1x/month visits. At this point with good nutrition and exercise your maintenance adjustments are to keep you in alignment and functioning at your tip-top.
The purpose of the program is to keep flare-ups to a minimum. Flare-ups do happen though. When they do, your regular adjustment will have worked to cut your recovery time to a minimum. This typically will require a couple of adjustments in a row to get you back on track.
HISTORY OF CHIROPRACTIC
HISTORY OF CHIROPRACTIC
1895 is the year chiropractic was distinguished as a separate health care practice. DD Palmer started the scientific study of specific corrections to spinal alignment. DD Palmer defined chiropractic as: “a philosophy, science and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease.”
Later in 1895, DD moved to Iowa, where the janitor in his building, Harvey Lillard was working. DD soon found out that Harvey was a deaf man, but this was not always so. He stated, after squatting, he felt a ‘pop’ in his back, when he stood up, he could no longer hear.
DD surmised that a vertebra must have been displaced causing the man to be deaf. He convinced Lillard to let him adjust the spine and return the alignment to a state of ease. This was his first breakthrough. After adjusting the spine, Lillard could then hear again.
“I was deaf 17 years and I expected to always remain so, for I had doctored a great deal without any benefit. I had long ago made up my mind to not take any more ear treatments, for it did me no good. Last January Dr. Palmer told me that my deafness came from an injury in my spine. This was new to me; but it is a fact that my back was injured at the time I went deaf. Dr. Palmer treated me on the spine; in two treatments I could hear quite well. That was eight months ago. My hearing remains good.”
– Harvey Lillard (Palmer 1897)
DD Palmer was the discoverer of chiropractic. His son, BJ Palmer was the developer.
BJ developed chiropractic into a scientific, specific method of adjusting misalignments, termed “Vertebral Subluxations.” He also did massive work in the development of chiropractic philosophy, paving the way for true chiropractic pioneers.
Chiropractic 120+ years later is stronger, more scientific, and specific than ever before, we still believe in the overriding vitalism that chiropractic is originally based on, true health comes from within and only from internal change can the cause be corrected.
